***A note from Miss Staudt: Have a safe and happy holiday break! I am loving our class more each day and can really see the growth they have made since August. This is such a fun time to spend with family, give thanks for the gifts in our lives, and reflect on the past year. I hope you get the chance to do all three of those things - I know I will be giving thanks for each of you as I reflect on our first few months as a class!

We'll still be posting here each day, but we're using KidBlog as a home for each of the students' own blogs. This safe environment allows each student to post their own ideas and comment on each others' posts while I moderate everything. We tried it out today and loved it - I'm excited to see how we can use it as the year goes on!

We finally had a day spent almost entirely in our room working! We worked on learning the names of place values in math, named the 5 regions of the United States in social studies, and began our study of poetry in writing by reading poems with a partner - including some written by Miss Staudt!
Tomorrow we have our first spelling, vocabulary, and reading comprehension tests - I hope the students study tonight!

What a long day! It felt like we were hardly in our room with our first assembly, IC Checkout, computer lab time, going to Mrs. Long's classroom for science AND our afternoon PE time! It is so interesting to see what our schedules are going to be like for each cycle day. Apparently Day D will always be one spent mostly out of our room!

Everyone was quiet Tuesday morning after the long weekend - that extra day of fun must have worn them out! We had Mrs. Hansen visit our room to do a fun math lesson, took our first spelling pretest (the word list went home with everyone!), and began reading our first story in reading (vocabulary words went home too!).
The students also brought home a sheet of 'mystery numbers' to do as homework this week. We're just doing one problem a night as we get used to doing homework again.

Day 2
We had another busy day today! Lots of review and practice of procedures around the classroom including a role play of what to do if Miss Staudt suddenly got sick! The kids are catching on to how we do things quickly and we're working on getting back in school mode with our volume levels and talking - we certainly have a chatty class!
We did get a chance to learn about each other with some sharing this afternoon and together we reached our first mini goal of 10 tokens for good behavior. Because of our success with tokens, the students got to use the last five minutes of the day as 'free' time to draw, read, or talk quietly with a friend. We've set our new goal at 50 tokens and are working toward getting to have lunch in the courtyard!
Enjoy the long weekend! We'll be back in action on Tuesday at 9:15!

First Day of School!
We made it through our first day of 4th grade! The day involved a lot of talking about rules and expectations in our classroom and around the school. We got to learn about each other a little bit and used our planners for the first time!

Eager to meet you!
The students should all be receiving a letter from me today or tomorrow with the address for our classroom website. Hopefully that will also lead them here!
I am anxious to meet everyone and get the year started! How are you feeling about the new year?
